Before I rediscovered my love of performance, I was a newspaper and editorial photographer. During that lifetime I photographed important people, absolute nobodies, dogs at the shelter and everything in between.

For me, the story is always the star of the show. As a photojournalist, my goal was to tell the story honestly and in the most compelling way. Sometimes it was incredibly difficult and painful to see history play out. Other times it was outrageous fun.

I also taught university students the importance of photojournalism. We document what is, because it matters. The truth always wins, even if it takes far too long to be known. We owe that to our communities: l to share the world as it is, warts and all, so that we can someday, hopefully, become what we want it to be.
